Endearing oddities over tea.

Bienvenidos and Welcome! We are finally 'in' our new (and yet not so new) home! Yesterday we got the internet service hooked up so now here are some much awaited snippets and tippets of our new 104 year old home.
Here let me get that door for you:-) and Lisa I think you are going to LOVE this! There are many quirks that accompany an older house many of them require hours of work and maintenance such as the crack in the tub, mysterious leak in the basement and light switched that don't seem to turn anything on. But with that aside there are also some aspects to an older house that we just LOVE and add a rich depth to everyday life. The above door knob is the one that greets us every time we step outside or for you all every time you come for a visit. The entire house has all of the original knobs in lovely working order though not all as ornate as the one pictured above.
Would you mind 'pushing' that light switch while I put on the tea pot? Yes, and you do need to push it. This unfortunately is the only one that I have found around the house, but it operated the light in our dinning room and so I am sure it will get its share of comments as the years go by. Around the corner are the tea options for you to choose or if you prefer I do have coffee but you will be drinking alone as Jeremy is out for the day. Once you pick your tea you can peek in the living room and feel free to borrow a book if you like, we have yet to start a new read aloud but hopefully that will begin in the near future.
As you turn the corner you may notice another change if you watch your steps. The whole house has either tile (good job Dad, who knew a few years back that we would be enjoying your handy work) or wood flooring depending on the room. The wood work has been a real treat for us as this is something that both Jeremy and I(Beth) have always enjoyed in others homes but never thought it would be a reality in our own home. Then for some added interest as the house is headed by forced hot air the grates which cover the heat ducts are a taste of days gone by as well. There you have it and I believe our tea is waiting in one of the next posts I'll put a little on the changes that we have made but for now enjoy some of the oldies that we have found!

Oh, Bethy, you KNOW I have been waiting for a post like this... a little peek into the place that your family will be calling home! You also know that just the thought of sitting down and enjoying a cuppa tea with you in brings tears to my eyes. Thanks so much for posting and for the fun way in which it was done. I think I made an audible, "Ahh!" noise when I saw the built in bookshelf with glass cabinets...how beautiful. :D

I'm sure you will be diving into some good read alouds in the next few weeks. And imagine the life those winter reads will take on in your new surrounding. Love.

As far as chapter books, we are currently reading The Land of Oz (the children have been asking ever since we finished The Wizard of Oz) and Ereth's Birthday.

Been thinking of your family much lately, especially as Pinkie has a birthday coming up very soon!

Do send our love to the whole family. We miss you guys dearly.

Con mucho amor amiga,
Lisa

Precious!!! as an antique lover, I loved it, jijiji. I'm soo happy for you guys and your new home, you know about the necesity of having a place you call home. BTW i think I should send you pics of the bathroom C made :) He did a pretty good job!

Can't wait for that cup of tea!! or coffee... though I wouln't drink it alone 'cuz probably Lisa would join me :D But tea is per-fect.

I loved the bookshelf and the "molduras". they look like out of a deco magazine :)

I'm having a really tough time with the CLA learning, keep that in your prayers. One of the hardest things is the feeling of missing my children's life, their special moments while I'm away studying.

Love you and miss you,
Andi

p.s. hi lisa!! :D
